Attendance Policy
-
All students are required by Arizona State Law to attend school. ARS 15-797 states that all students, fourth through eighth grades, shall attend more than three-fourths of the instructional time scheduled for the day. Therefore, tardies and early dismissals at the parents' request will impact the student's attendance accordingly.
The Alhambra School Distrct defines excess absences as absences which total more than 10% of the days in membership for the school year, not to include absences due solely to certified illness, disease, or accident. Once the excessive mark is reached, a note from a doctor, dentist, or clincian will be required for each absence in order to be excused.
Attendance Procedures
School hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students should not be on campus prior to 8:00 a.m. unless they are attending tutoring or a school sponsored club meeting, as there is no supervision before this time.
Parents are to call the attendance line, 623-842-8567 extension 5203 , to report all absences and tardies. Please attempt to call before 9:00 a.m. Failure to report an absence will result in a phone call from the school to the parent at home or at work. If phone contact has not been made with the school, a note from the parent must be presented to the homeroom teacher the morning the student returns to school. The note must contain the student's name, the date of the absence, specific reason for the absence, and be signed by the parent or guardian.
All absences must be excused within 48 hours of the date of absence, or they will remain unexcused. When a student has accumulated three unexcused absences, a warning letter will be issued. At five unexcused absences, a citation may be issued for violation of an Arizona Revised Statute ARS 15-802 or 15-803. The citation would require that both the student and his/her parent appear in court. Please work with us to ensure accurate attendance records by reporting absences in a timely manner, and keeping all phone numbers current with the attendance office.
Students may not participate in after-school activities if they are not in attendance at school the day of activity.
