Breakfast and lunch meals are sold each morning in the Barcelona Middle School lunchroom between 7:50 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. Students or parents can place money in the cafeteria's Accu-scan system to pay for breakfast and/or lunch. The funds are credited to the child's account. When they come for breakfast or lunch, the cost is deducted from the account by the Accu-scan machine. Parents may put any amount of money into the account for their child, with a minimum of one week's worth of funds. Students may pay cash for lunch. Students may also purchase milk for $.25. If a whole lunch is purchased, milk is included. If your child is allergic to milk or some foods, please provide a written doctor's note and soy-milk or juice will be provided. All students must go to the cafeteria at lunchtime.
Alhambra District Child Nutrition Department
The Child Nutrition breakfast and lunch programs receive federal reimbursement to assist families and students. We wholeheartedly support the U.S.D.A. School Meal Initiative underscoring our national health responsibilities to assist in preventing America's high rates of heart disease, diabetes, and some forms of cancer through good nutrition.
* REDUCED price meals are offered only to students who qualify according to federal regulations. Forms for this program are available in the cafeteria and the office.
Reminders to Parents:
Meal charges are not allowed.
A student or parent can make meal deposits.
The cafeteria clerk reminds a student when his/her meal account has only two meals remaining.
Students are to safeguard their meal numbers, as individual numbers are issued to each student and must not be used by any other student, under Federal Regulation.
In each case of a lost, stolen, or misused meal number, the parent/guardian will be notified. On the third occurrence, the parent or guardian will be required to meet with the cafeteria manager to assist in resolving the problem.
During student meal service, no outside food service (e.g., McDonald's, Burger Kind, Taco Bell, etc.) is allowed in the cafeteria. Sack lunches are permitted. If the student is not buying milk, parents are encouraged to provide unsweetened fruit juice for sack lunches.
Soda pop or other carbonated drinks are not allowed with either school meals or sack lunches.
