Attendance Policy
-
It is important that your child attend school every day, on time. All students are required by Arizona State Law to attend school. ARS 15-797 states that all students, fourth through eighth grades, shall attend more than three-fourths of the instructional time scheduled for the day. Therefore, tardies and early dismissals at the parents' request will impact the student's attendance accordingly.
The Alhambra School District defines excess absences as more than 10% of the days in membership for the school year, not to include absences due solely to certified illness, disease, or accident. Once the excessive mark is reached, a note from a doctor, dentist, or clinician will be required for each absence in order to be excused.
Parents are to call the attendance line, 602-589-0135, option 1, option 1 (2 times) to report all absences and tardies. You may also email our attendance clerk, Ms. Sarai Barrera at saraibarreradequiroz@alhambraesd.org
Please attempt to call before 9:45 a.m. Failure to report an absence will result in a phone call from the school to the parent at home or at work. If phone contact has not been made with the school, a note from the parent must be presented to the homeroom teacher the morning the student returns to school. The note must contain the student's name, the date of absence, specific reason for absence, and be signed by the parent or guardian.
All absences must be excused within 48 hours of the date of the absence, or they will remain unexcused. When a student has accumulated three unexcused absences, a warning letter will be issued. At five unexcused absences, a citation may be issued for violation of Arizona Revised Statute A.R.S. 15-802 or 15-803. The citation would require that both the student and his/her parent appear in court. Please work with us to ensure accurate attendance records by reporting absences in a timely manner, and keeping all phone numbers current with the school office.
