Open Enrollment at AESD

  • AESD Open Enrollment Protocol

    Alhambra District offers School Choice, meaning families may attend any Alhambra school of their choice, regardless of where they live, subject to capacity (see school available capacity). This also includes capacity in Special Education and specialized programs offered. Families are welcome to apply at any time of the year at our campuses where space is available. NOTE: If you are applying at Alhambra Traditional School or Global Academy of Phoenix, the Open Enrollment Application is included with registration.

    WHAT TYPES OF OPEN ENROLLMENT ARE THERE?

    NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS - Families who reside outside the Alhambra School District (see map)

    • Families that live outside the Alhambra District boundaries (Non-Residents).
    • Non-resident students returning to the same school from the prior year & their siblings.*
      • *Siblings of current non-resident students will be given priority. 
    • Students who are children of persons who are employed by or at a school in the district. 
    • The parent or legal guardian of the student is responsible for the student's transportation.
    • Enrollment in a school's PreK program does not guarantee placement at that particular school for kindergarten. 
    • Applications may need to be re-submitted annually. 

    RESIDENT STUDENTS - Families who reside within the Alhambra School District (see map)

    • Students living within the district boundaries who want to attend a different school within the district outside of their home school (Resident).
    • Resident students returning to the same school from the prior year & their siblings*
      • *Siblings of current resident students will be given priority.
    • Students who are children of persons who are employed by or at a school in the district. 
    • The parent or legal guardian of the student is responsible for the student's transportation. 
    • Enrollment in a school's PreK program does not guarantee placement at that particular school for kindergarten. 
    • Applications may need to be re-submitted annually.

    TRANSPORTATION OF STUDENTS ADMITTED THROUGH OPEN ENROLLMENT

    The District may provide transportation for open enrollment non-resident & resident students from a designated pickup point on a bus route serving the attendance area of the school to which the student has been admitted or as may be otherwise determined by the District. 

    The District shall provide transportation for non-resident & resident students with disabilities whose individualized education program (IEP) specifies that transportation is necessary for the fulfillment of the program. 


    Open enrollment applications are only available in person. You can download the application form here. At this time, parents/guardians whose student(s) are currently open enrolled at the school of their choice, will not need to reapply for Open Enrollment for a new school year unless wanting to enroll in a new school outside of their residential boundary area.

    Note: Capacity is updated every 12 weeks, per A.R.S. 15-816.01. Please note that due to daily fluctuations in the district and school enrollment, actual capacity on a given day may be different from what is indicated below. "Limited" indicates there are openings dependent on grade level. 

    Enrollment for students who receive special education services is determined based on the staffing ratios and capacity to provide services and support in the student's IEP.  Specialized Programs are only offered at select schools.
    A series of dashes (---) indicates that the program is not offered at that school.
