Gifted Academically Talented Environment

  • Gifted Academically Talented Environment

Gifted students have demonstrated the potential to perform at high levels in academic or creative fields when compared to others of their same age, experience, or environment. Students possessing these abilities can be found in all populations, gender, economic class, or nationality. In addition, some students with disabilities may be gifted.

Alhambra Elementary School District recognizes that gifted students are gifted all day and want to provide differentiated learning experiences for those children throughout their school day. These students deserve differentiated instruction to achieve their full potential while supporting their unique social and emotional needs that is common among gifted learners. Alhambra Elementary School Districts curriculum is structured so that all students, including the academically gifted, can expand upon regular classroom assignments to the fullest extent of their abilities, emphasizing higher level thinking processes and "choices". These experiences may include the provision for quality time spent with peers of similar interests and abilities; opportunities for involvement in clubs, organizations, enrichment groups and activities; and social and emotional support, whole class lessons, and small group work.

Students who we identify as gifted have services available to them throughout their time in the Alhambra Elementary School District. These tailored experiences provide support to students as they develop into an independent learner. Our classrooms provide a safe environment for gifted students to learn from failure, evaluate their own efforts, and develop a love of learning in their path to become responsible and productive citizens.
