Announcements

  • Good Evening, Alhambra Families - this is a message from Superintendent Yslas:

This is an important message regarding the start of school for the upcoming year.  Since the beginning of all school closures, mid-March, Alhambra has worked to design plans that ensure the safety of our students, staff, and all families upon return.  During this planning time we consistently receive updates and guidance from health and government officials that impact our work.

Our volunteer ACT Task Force team has worked tirelessly for the past few months to finalize our return to school plans.  Part of our ACT Task Force is the Healthy Traffic Light Committee.

The Healthy Traffic Light Committee is using a stoplight visual to categorize our expectations for safe and healthy behaviors depending on the level of threat being posed by COVID-19 infections at any time.  The Healthy Traffic Light system uses GREEN, YELLOW and RED designations—with a second, RED Level-2 designation addressing severe risk.

With the recent spike in Arizona’s infection rate, and after a great deal of consideration, district officials have determined that school will begin on Red Level-2.  This means that all students will participate in district-wide Distance Learning starting August 17 for the duration of the first quarter.

The district has not eliminated the original options communicated to families, including 2-1-2 In-Person Learning and Distance Learning; however, operating in Red Level-2 Distance Learning is the only safe option at this time.   During the first quarter of Distance Learning, district officials will closely monitor and determine when it becomes safe for students to return to our school buildings.

When the district has determined it is safe to return, parents may choose to have their children continue with Distance Learning or participate in the 2-1-2 In-Person Learning option.  Devices will be distributed to all families before August 17th, and limited Learning Spaces are available at school sites for families in need of this support.

Please carefully review the attachment for more detailed information related to this announcement (https://bit.ly/AESDistanceLearning).  We thank you for your patience and extend our commitment to ensuring that the Alhambra community remains safe and that learning continues.

    Thank you.

    Mark Yslas

  • 2020 Census...Be Counted!

Every 10 years, the United States Census counts everyone living in the United States; and this determines the amount of funding each state receives from the federal government.

During the weeks of March 12-20, 2020, every household will receive an invitation to participate in the Census. Be sure to respond to the Census, and remember to count every person in your home.  You can respond to the Census online or by using your mobile device, by phone, or by mail.

Responses to the Census are safe, secure, and protected by federal law. Your answers can only be used to produce statistics, and cannot be used by any government agency or court including the FBI, CIA, DHS, and ICE.  The only questions asked are simple questions like age, gender, and the number of people living in your home, including children.

Be sure to respond to the Census when you receive your invitation.  In May, Census takers will begin visiting homes that have not responded to the Census to help make sure everyone is counted.  If someone visits your home to collect information for the 2020 Census, check to make sure that they have a valid ID badge with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date. Census workers may also carry Census Bureau bags and other equipment with the Census Bureau logo.

Be counted and help shape the future of Arizona!
