Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at James W. Rice Elementary School, Home of the Jaguars! Our team is looking forward to another wonderful year with our amazing scholars as we grow and "level up" together!
At JWR, we believe in educating the whole child and work diligently to provide a positive, safe and engaging environment where students can reach their fullest potential. We offer a multi-tiered system of supports that includes PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), RTP (Responsible Thinking Theory), AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), and more. AVID is designed to prepare students for college readiness and success in their future. We focus on AVID school-wide from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade and it is also offered as an elective enrichment class for select students in grades 6-8. AVID enhances our curriculum with best practices and organizational structures in each of our classrooms. The framework for AVID Elementary includes: WICOR (Writing, Organization, Collaboration, Organization, Reading) Strategies, Student Success Skills, and Partnership. Our JWR team works collaboratively to ensure our focus on the four AVID domains: Instruction, Systems, Leadership and Culture, remains student-centered and is the best for our scholars and community.
Please join us at our annual Meet the Teacher Day on Wednesday, August 7th anytime between 9:00 am - 11:00 am. This is an excellent opportunity for you to stop by the school, see your child's classroom, meet their teacher and gain excitement about a fantastic year of learning and fun! Our first day of school will be on Thursday, August 8th. Breakfast will be served in the classroom daily between 7:00 - 7:25 am. Our regular school hours for all students K-8 are 7:25 am - 2:10 pm and Wednesdays we have early release at 12:10 pm, unless it's otherwise noted in our newsletter or flyer sent home.
I look forward to seeing all of you and I invite you to visit our school any time throughout the year and become a partner with us in providing your child the high quality education they deserve.
