• Special Areas Options for 6th-8th Grade Students for the 22/23 School Year

    Hello, 6th-8th Grade ATS Parents!

    Alhambra Traditional School has the opportunity this year to allow 5th-grade students an opportunity to provide input on their special area schedules. As a school, we are excited that we can provide programming that will offer high-quality specials to students while still maintaining a dedication to traditional education. Teachers in these positions specialize in their content and will plan and deliver intentional lessons designed to immerse your student in various topics.

    After learning about the different opportunities available to your student, please complete the form to indicate your student’s preference. ATS will do its best to enroll your student in their top choices throughout the year. Please complete this form by Thursday, July 7th.

    Special Areas Classes Available to 6th-8th Grade Students:

    Band

    6th-8th grade students will have the opportunity to choose, learn, practice, and perform a musical instrument (woodwind, brass, or percussion) in a group setting. The specific goal of the band program is to give the students the skills to read and perform music effectively and successfully at the elementary and junior high learning levels. Band students will have the opportunity to perform during the school year.

    Choir

    6th-8th grade students can learn, practice, and perform vocally in a group setting. The specific goal of the choir program is to give the students the skills to read and perform music effectively and successfully at the elementary and junior high learning levels. Choir students will have the opportunity to perform during the school year and will learn various skills to prepare them to excel in choir and vocal performances in future years.

    Art

    6th-8th grade students will learn and practice 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art skills. Students will brainstorm, design, and create pieces that build an appreciation of art history and art as a tool for communication. Students will build proficiency in drawing, painting, sculpting, and digital design.

    PE

    6th-8th grade students can expect a traditional PE class that starts with cardio and core strength builders and will include games that center on teamwork, hand-eye coordination, and demonstrating good sportsmanship. Students will develop skills to allow them to excel on and off the field.

    STEM

    6th-8th grade students will be offered the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Students will engage in the engineering design process, coding, 3D design, and electrical engineering. Students will understand how science and mathematics principles impact everyday life.

    Verizon Innovative Lab

    6th-8th grade students will be offered the opportunity to learn the basics of virtual reality software, programming, electrical engineering, 3D design, and 3D printing. Students will be able to engage in high-quality learning about future careers and technology.
