Principal's Message

Amy Bradshaw

Hello Barcelona Elementary Families,

My name is Christopher Hodo, and I am truly honored and excited to serve as the new principal of Barcelona Elementary School. I am looking forward to an incredible school year filled with building relationships, celebrating successes, and partnering with our teachers, staff, families, and scholars to create an outstanding learning environment for every child.

Originally from the Chicagoland area, I have spent much of my adult life in Iowa. I earned my bachelor's degree from Iowa State University and both my master's degree and educational specialist degree from Drake University. This school year marks my 21st year in education. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving as a high school English teacher for eight years, an assistant principal for five years, and I am now beginning my eighth year as a principal.

My wife, Jennifer, and I have been married for 24 years and are blessed with three wonderful children: Ezekiel (23), Kimberly (22), and Solomon (11). We also have a dog named Koni (Great Pyrenees and Labrador mix) When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, recording and producing music, cheering on the Chicago Bears, and perfecting the art of smoking a great brisket on the barbecue.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to become part of the Barcelona Elementary community. I believe that strong schools are built on meaningful relationships, open communication, and a shared commitment to helping every scholar grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I can't wait to meet each of you and work together to make this an exceptional school year. Thank you for welcoming my family and me into the Barcelona family. I look forward to an amazing year ahead!

Warm regards,

Christopher Hodo
