REDUCE YOUR STATE TAXES
EXPAND OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS
The Arizona Legislature passed a law in 1997 (A.R.S.
43-1089.01) allowing Arizona taxpayers to contribute up to $400 for married couples and up to $200 for single taxpayers to a
public school, and then deduct that entire amount from their state tax
bill. It's a win-win situation for taxpayers and students!

Extracurricular activities are good
for children and the community
The law says these donations must be used for extracurricular activities.
With your help, Alhambra District is able to offer tutoring, band, music,
art, recreational activities, and much more. You may choose the school
and the activity you would like to support.
Extracurricular activities help
children develop qualities such as leadership, team play, and cooperation,
as well as provide safe, supervised activities after school hours. Thanks
to you, these programs are available to all children in the Alhambra District.
If you anticipate a refund from the state, it would
increase by the amount of your contribution, assuming you had that amount
withheld.
A receipt will be provided for tax purposes. Donations
must be received by December 31 in order to be eligible for the tax credit
this calendar year.

Parents and non-parents are eligible.
This tax credit is available to all Arizona taxpayers
regardless of whether or not they have children in school. A couple
filing jointly can contribute $400 and receive a tax credit for a maximum
of $400; an individual may contribute up to $200.

Tax credit vs. tax deduction.
A tax credit is a
dollar-for-dollar reduction in the actual tax owed.
If you owe $800 in state income
taxes and you donate $400 to a public school for extracurricular
activities, you may subtract the $400 from your tax bill and pay
the state just $400.
A tax deduction only
reduces total taxable income.
