Second Grade Instructional Day Lengthened For 08-09
The Governing Board approved increasing the second grade instructional day from 300 minutes to 360 minutes at Alhambra Traditional, Andalucia Primary, Catalina Ventura, Cordova Primary, and Montebello schools. Beginning in August 2008, second graders districtwide will attend school for one extra hour and have the same dismissal time as third graders.

ATS: An Excelling School
High standards, involved parents, and teamwork have made Alhambra Traditional School the top elementary and junior high school in Arizona. With a proven track record for success, ATS has scored in the very top ranks on the AIMS in all areas.
Over the past several years, ATS has maintained a high level of success in achievement. Since 2002, ATS has received the “Excelling” school label each year and remained in the top five percent of schools in achievement throughout Arizona.
At ATS highly trained teachers deliver the curriculum at an accelerated pace, preparing students to score well above grade level on norm referenced tests. ATS students consistently average a stanine of 7, 8 or 9 on norm-referenced tests.
ATS prides itself on being the first school in the Phoenix valley to earn Spalding Education International Accreditation. With this honor ATS has also received recognition throughout the United States and internationally as a school where the Spalding method for teaching students to read and write is used effectively with outstanding results.

Parent Academy Receives Golden Bell Award
The ATS Parent Academy program has received a Golden Bell Award from the Arizona School Boards Association. The title of our application was “Parent Academy - Continuing the Tradition of Excellence.” The objective of the program is to recognize standards of program excellence that provide leadership in curriculum development.
For the past three years, Parent Academy has successfully connected teachers with parents and parents with their children in a fun and academically charged atmosphere. We believe Parent Academy is making a difference in student achievement and symbolizes a tradition of excellence at Alhambra Traditional School.
Many thanks go out to all teachers who have provided instruction at one of our classes, to the parents who have attended, to the students who have provided childcare, and to the staff who have made each class possible.
